Welcome to the 49th JCC Book & Arts Fair!

Mark Shechner, Professor Emeritus at the University at Buffalo, who was scheduled to present a newly released collection of American Jewish fiction, The New Diaspora, at the JCC Book & Arts Fair, died October 16, following a sudden illness.

This remarkable anthology of 36 contemporary American Jewish fiction stories includes new and established North American Jewish writers from South Africa, Hungary, Egypt, France, Canada and Russia, as well as America. Learn more about The New Diaspora.

Buffalo‘s recent growth spurt in arts and culture has been transforming our city into a mecca for new and dynamic performers and events. From street festivals to Silo City (who ever thought that grain elevators could be repurposed to showcase film, theatre and art?) we are experiencing an inspiring resurgence of creativity that is bringing out the best of what Western New York has to offer. The 49th JCC Book & Arts Fair is no exception.

This year we feature 11 author, artist and musical events that will please audiences of every age and culture beginning with Global Day of Jewish Learning, an event that takes place concurrently in 48 countries on the same day. From the performances of Tangos, Habaneras and Gypsy by Jazz quartet Boleo, to author Jackie Albarella (The Hotel Lafayette), to children’s book authors Wende Essrow and Sandy Sloane, we are showcasing a remarkable group of Western New Yorkers with talent and truly unique experiences to share through their art. Local author Sandra Block brings us mystery, based in Buffalo! Michael Lasser brings us musical history – born from Buffalo! Mara Koven-Gelman takes on collected journeys through grief and healing, and Buffalo-born writer Nancy Reisman weaves us through family turbulence.

We look forward to seeing you often. Please help us spread the word to friends and family – everyone is welcome! Tickets to events may be purchased online on our Tickets page or at either JCC front reception.
